Fire in the Garment District
DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — I was a bit under the weather last night / this morning so I doubt any sirens could possibly have woken me, but abc7's website tells of a "spectacular fire" in the garment district this morning.
Firefighters were sent to the 800 block of South San Pedro Street at 5:41 a.m., said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The flames burned through the roof of the single-story 150-foot-by-150-foot building, Humphrey said. After about an hour, the firefighters appeared to have gained the upper hand on the flames as bulbous plumes of gray and white smoke began billowing from the stricken structure.
I did notice when I made my way to the library just now that the air seemed a little less than clear. Perhaps it could have been from that.
The story mentions that a residential hotel next door had to be evacuated. Anyone want to chime in on which hotel it was?
Update (30 seconds later): Always, just after I post, I find more information. The LA Times has the story with pictures, while NBC4's account has video.
