Broadway Improvements from TEA?

By Eric Richardson

I just noticed in an LA Times piece on Congress preparing to pass the Transporation Equity Act that Broadway is supposed to get $2.5 million for pedestrian improvements. That was the first that I had heard of this, though with the way TEA funding actually works it was probably negotiated several years before I even made my way to LA. I'm very interested to find some more details about what would be done with these funds.

it's a little bit of a head-scratcher for me why it is that the federal government would be kicking in for this. it must be one of those craft applications of their interstate commerce powers.

They take gas tax on fuel that isn't necessarily expended on Federal highways. They fund all sort of local transportation projects in return. Not to say it's the best system, but if they're going to take it they better give some back. -e;
