Biking USC and Downtown

DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — If you’re someone who ever has to make the trip from Downtown to USC, I have to say that the way to do it is via a bicycle. Today I needed to go buy books on campus, so I hopped on my bike and 16 minutes later I was in the heart of USC. Even if you have an on-campus parking spot, I don’t think you could beat that once you add up the time it takes to get in the car, drive out of the garage, drive to USC, drive to a spot in the garage, park, and then walk into campus.
Speaking of bikes, tonight at the DLANC Transportation & Public Works committee meeting I got permission to start an ad-hoc committee focused on bicycles and Downtown. I’m really interested to start working with groups like the LA County Bike Coalition to finding practical measures that can be taken to make Downtown more bike friendly. Tonight I got a first great suggestion – better bike parking at the Central Library. If you’re interested in getting involved with this ad-hoc send me an email at e@ericrichardson.com.
