New Audit Says El Pueblo on Right Road
DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — Olvera Street was in the news for the wrong reasons last year, as reports came out of mismanagement and missing funds. A new audit (1MB PDF) released today by Laura Chick's office finds things in much better shape a year later. From Chick's cover letter to the Council
Today I am very pleased to release a follow-up audit of El Pueblo that tells a much different story. Significant progress has been made in implementing the recommendations of my audit. Key administrative positions have been filled, and oversight of operations has been tightened. El Pueblo is well on its way to financial stability and health.
The 2004 audit gave 31 recommendations; 20 of those have now been implemented and 6 more have been partially implemented.

Last year the Downtown News reported mass shredding being done by El Pueblo employees (or maybe ex-employees who somehow got in the offices?) when this scandal started to heat up. I've seen no follow up to this. Or what punishment, if any, this incident resulted in.
