Google Maps Zooms In

By Eric Richardson
Published: Wednesday, January 25, 2006, at 01:53PM

So sometime fairly recently Google Maps added some new resolution to the satellite views you could get over the web. They've had the extra resolution in Google Earth, but previously the web maps were limited in their max zoom.

Some of the new views, though, are pretty disconcerting. Check out this view of 777 Tower appearing to lean ominously over parking lots. Particularly odd are instances where a pair of buildings lean different directions in the same shot. I understand that the perspectives are just the result of not flying the satellite straight over everything, but the visual is a bit odd to look at.

That's pretty freaky ... kinda gives me a headache too, the same way Escher drawings do.
