I Love Your Work
DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — Last May I mentioned that Night of the Comet was fascinating for showing a view of empty Downtown LA during the '80s. While we were in Kauai Kathy and I watched another Downtown flick, 2003's I Love Your Work. A large chunk of the film is set in the Palace Theatre, though in the amazing streetfacing office space rather than in the theatre proper. It's a great cast and only a decent film but I enjoyed watching.

I assume you've seen the film MILLION DOLLAR HOTEL, which was shot entirely at the Rosslyn Hotel and several blocks around it. And it features everyone's favorite drunken purveyor of slurs, Mel Gibson! It's a good chance to see downtown just before the metamorphosis.

One of these days, I'm going to watch either a really bad or really really great indi movie shot in Downtown, and I'm going to catch the Gallery Row sign hanging around somewhere in the background. That would be really cool.

Scott beat me to it. Though awful from what I've seen (and I've seen most of it), Bono's "Million Dollar Hotel" does have some good footage of downtown. It was on HBO last night.

You should rent the Charlten Heston vid Omega Man. It has lots of of footage of Bunker Hill circa 1970, including him running around the DWP building, and of Broadway and the Million Dollar Theater.
