Important Crowd at the Sheraton

By Eric Richardson
Published: Wednesday, September 06, 2006, at 03:04PM

When I walked outside for lunch I noticed various official vehicles parked everywhere. Within a one-block radius of Macy's Plaza were probably fifteen LAPD black and whites, various unmarked law enforcement vehicles, a fire battalion SUV and several news vans. I'm guessing they're all here for the National Latino Congreso, which kicked off today at the Sheraton.

Whatever (or whoever) it was that drew all the law enforcement attention must have only been for the lunch session. All the cars are gone now.

Update (Thursday night): Nope... The LAPD cars were there for a service honoring 13 officers who distinguished themselves in the line of duty. Busy day for the Sheraton...

From what I heard on NPR, the NLC is the world's largest gathering of powerful latino business people and politicians.
