DLANC Candidates: Scott Bytof

In my post on the DLANC candidates I offered to run statements from any candidates who sent them to me. This one is from Scott Bytof, a candidate for the South Park Resident seat.

Professionally I am a Marketing Analyst, with past relevant experience as a homeowner's association board member and also as an officer on the Downtown Torrance Association. I am currently the president of the San Diego State University Alumni Association, Los Angeles Chapter.

I moved to downtown 3 years ago, and am passionate about its future.

Its exciting to walk the streets and see new businesses and residential buildings opening almost weekly. I never miss an Artwalk, am an avid user and supporter of public transportation, and eagerly await each new edition of the Downtown News to read about what is coming next.

Click the "Read More" link to continue Scott's statement. Don't forget that the DLANC election is this Tuesday, September 12th.

As redevelopment moves forward, we will continue to face many challenges and the spotlight will shine brightly upon our community and actions. My motivation to be a part of DLANC is to help raise the level of civility on our streets. Many of us have pondered questions like, "where does compassion end and personal responsibility begin?" or "are we being compassionate when we protect a lawless life on the streets as a lifestyle choice?". There are no easy answers, but the question is clear, "How can our two downtowns peacefully and creatively become one?" DLANC can be an important voice in shaping policy that balances all points of view.

If elected, I hope to seek out and act upon the concerns of my neighbors, work to build consensus on issues, and move forward on solutions with my fellow board members. There is a lot of optimism and energy downtown. As stakeholders in this community we are the dreamers and believers, and the city government has been very supportive.

Many of us have probably experienced friends and family who think we are a little crazy to be establishing residences and starting businesses down here. I look forward to being part of the effort to do what it takes prove them all wrong.
