Downtown Well Represented With Roasters

By Eric Richardson
Published: Wednesday, October 25, 2006, at 05:18PM

The LA Times today looks at local coffee roasters and two of the nine have a Downtown presence: Groundwork and City Bean.

Groundwork was a given -- I first made my way over to the Arts District to buy beans in November of 2004 -- but I hadn't realized that City Bean had a Downtown shop. Their website was zero help: explain to me how it makes any sense to have a website that doesn't have your locations on it. Turns out, though, they were right under my nose in Macy's Plaza.

Groundwork's Downtown presence will soon be expanding, as they move into a space in the Higgins Building next to Pitfire.

I swear, it feels like I'm hearing of a new retail tenant at the Higgins every day. How many retail stalls do they have??!

it's too bad that it seems to take ages for anything to open (or remodel) in the higgins or the old bank district. warung cafe first had signs up saying that they would only be closed for two weeks. i'm not holding my breath for orlando's or "sushi on spring" to open. and the chinese restaurant in the higgins has been in progress forever.

in comparison, the retail spaces in the library court building seemed to be opened in a flash.
