The neon for the upcoming Seven Grand bar on 7th street has been up for a few weeks now, but last night was the first time I've seen it lit. It's a very cool addition to 7th, and in a spot that seems to sometimes need some extra light.

There's a lot of cool stuff coming on 7th right now. Within the year as housing, restaurants, bars, etc start to open we'll going to see this street go through a very welcome change.

Downtown needs more neon lights! The Seven Grand is gorgeous and very well-designed. Love it.

Any idea on the opening date for Seven Grand?

Shouldn't it be "Seven Olive" since it's closer to Olive Street, than Grand Ave.

Michael:

Yeah, I think you are right... but "Seven Olive" doesn't sound as good as "Seven Grand" - to me at least. Than again, "Seven Olive" makes me think of a gallon-sized martini, and it is a bar...

Word is that they're looking for an early April opening.

Finally, some sign of new life on Seventh Street. The various streets are gradually developing individual characters: for example, Sixth Street, Figueroa, Grand Avenue.

The name "Seven Grand" makes me think the name "Grand" (meaning Grand Avenue) may be gaining value as a brand. I look forward to the various neighborhoods and streets begin to vie for attention and compete for cachet and name recognition.

Who does your neon? With the Golden Gopher, Broadway Bar, Pete's, and now Seven Grand, the bars are bringing neon back to downtown. Keep them coming.

Let's not forget some of the other recently re-lit neons: Los Angeles Theatre, Orpheum Theatre, Eastern Columbia and the clock at the top of the Oviatt Building.

I noticed that the Eastern Building is not yet completely relit. When the clock was originally re-lit a couple of years ago, the building was also lit up. The effect was dramatic and you could see the building from very far away. Now, only the clock is lit and the effect is more ordinary. Hopefully, once the building is occupied, the lighting of it will return to its glory.

Also, the Orpheum lighting is even more striking now with the new parking structure across the street. It reflects back a lot of the light from the theater and noticably brightens the block.

Thanks for the compliments on the sign, we worked hard on creating something that would stand out on 7th Steet. We're hoping Seven Grand Whiskey Bar will be open by the end of April. Please feel free to contact me directly at leann@twoonethree.com with any other questions including sign makers information. LR
