Art Walk DASH Officially a Go
DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES —
Today City Council approved the Art Walk DASH, meaning that the June 14th Art Walk will be the first to feature a free DASH circulator getting people to the galleries on Spring and Main, between 2nd and 9th. The regular DASH D line will run until 7pm (and charge its quarter fare), then the new Art Walk service will take over and run its shortened route for free until 10pm.
This service was the idea of DLANC's Arts Committee, and will be paid for using neighborhood council funds. Even with the funding lined up, City Council still had to approve the use of the DASH buses and approve letting DLANC pay the transit operator directly. That seal of approval was granted today.
Art Walk has been amazingly successful at getting people to the galleries on the nickle at 5th/Main, but some of the spaces on the outside parts of Gallery Row get far less traffic. Hopefully by making it easier to get around, the Art Walk DASH can lessen that difference.
In slightly poli-sci geeky news, this also means that I've now written a motion (PDF) that's been passed by City Council.

Great job Eric. You have been working on this for a while now. Good to see that DLANC continues to trailblaze. Maybe now I can make it to the galleries on the southern part of main and spring now and not worry about not making it to them in a reasonable time frame, trying to walk to them..
Who said that the City Council needed to pass an ordinance allowing the neighborhood councils to file motions , you did that without that effort.
Great job!!!
