If you're particularly observant to Downtown's marked up sidewalks, you might have noticed some orange circles that showed up yesterday in the Historic Core. The two circles and an "LADOT" indicate places where the City is looking to install its inverted-U bicycle racks. Given the Historic Core's utter lack of bike facilities, these new racks will be a very welcome improvement.

Yesterday's markings are concentrated on Spring and Main, between 4th and 7th. They particularly target placing parking outside the galleries, but also get to eateries and a bookstore. Before the racks go in the sites should be extended down toward 9th street.

Bike racks, but no BIKE LANES ?? Talk about a token gesture.

Bike lanes are a complicated subject. Many riders (myself included) don't like them and are happier without. Check out Will Campbell's May editorial for a well-done take on the subject.

So happy to see the post about the bike racks. Thanks for the update and pics explaining the LADOT paint.

Do you know of any other places or businesses where bike racks are planned?

Bike racks may indeed inspire bike lanes some day...one step or in this case 'one spoke' at a time.......
