This Sunday is the 2007 Grand Avenue Festival, bringing fun booths and free performances to the top of the hill. Festivities run from 11am to 5pm and stretch from the Central Library to the Cathedral.

Check out the schedule PDF to get a full run-down of the day's activities, and be sure to take the chance to get inside Disney Hall and the Colburn School. Note that Disney Hall events require tickets, which are free and are made available one hour before each show.

As we mentioned previously, last year's event took place the same day as the LA Weekly's Detour Festival. This year the events are spaced out a week, making it a little easier to take in all that's going on.

Last year's confluence of events on October 7, 2006 was truly remarkable. Not only did 20,000 people visit the Grand Avenue Festival and 15,000 ticketholders attend the Detour Festival. 56,000 Dodger fans were at Chavez Ravine watching an afternoon playoff game against the Mets AND 80,000 USC supporters filled the Coliseum to witness the conquest of the Washington Huskies AND the Staples Center hosted the Los Angeles Kings home opener for 20,000 hockey lovers. Oh, in addition the Library Tower held its charity fund raiser stairwell Run To The Top for a few hundred urban athletes AND the Moon Festival was celebrated by hundreds of folks in Chinatown.

WHAT A DAY IN DOWNTOWN L.A. !

I've been to the last two and this will be the 1st one on a Sunday since I've been going. It actually works out better for me, but I wonder what the effect will be on attendance?

Under their directions they have this advice:

Metrolink

Take the Red Line to the Civic Center exit. Walk north on 1st Street for one block towards Grand Avenue (up the hill).

Nothing like having directions that add to the confusion. They obviously meant Metro, not Metrolink.
