Just a little over a year after LA Cafe re-opened -- one of three new retail spots to pop up in quick succession on Spring between 6th and 7th -- the tiny eatery has made a big change and re-tooled its menu. The new line-up puts a big emphasis on paninis, with a dozen or so salads and some wraps thrown in for good measure. Perhaps notable: L.A. Sliders -- a "basket of 4 classic beef sliders w/ sweet onion bits on soft, chewy yeast rolls."

Worth checking out is the menu itself. Yes, it really is hand-drawn, using colored pencils. Be sure to check out the image of the Los Angeles Theatre on the far right panel (shown after the jump).

Living next door I tend to stop by most often looking to pick something up and bring it back home, but the cafe's sidewalk seating is certainly worthy as a place to hang out and enjoy the development of the Historic Core.

LA Cafe is at 629 S. Spring. Phone number is 213-612-3000.

As my waistline will attest, I am a big fan of the chocolate cannoli as well as calling my lunch order ahead to be ready for pick-up.
