A Weekend to Avoid the Tunnel

This weekend would be a good time to make travel plans that avoid the 2nd street tunnel. According to filming notifications, Cadillac has a full closure of the tunnel tonight from 4pm to 6am. They better be out by 6, though, because at 6:30am DOT closes the tunnel for the Angel City Half Marathon. It's down from that until 12:30pm.

But here's where it gets confusing... Yesterday afternoon another filming notice went out that has an Acura commercial getting shot in the tunnel from 8am to 10pm today, and 3pm to 10pm tomorrow. Perhaps they really have decided to share sets. Or perhaps this filming notification system leaves a lot to be desired.

Pictured is the 3rd street tunnel, since I didn't have a good 2nd street shot handy.

Thanks for the notice, Eric. This tunnel seems to ALWAYS be closed on the weekends, though. I have stopped even trying to go that route and instead head up to Cesar Chavez if I want to go west of the city.

It's pretty simple to tell them apart, besides that the Second Street Tunnel is on Second Street and the Third Street Tunnel is on Third Street, the Second Street Tunnel is lined with 'white' tile. Third Street Tunnel is not.

The Second Street Tunnel is often featured in automobile commercials (the current Cadillac CTS commercial for example). It is also easy to spot in Ridley Scott's Blade Runner.

BTW it's a very nice picture.

Dear Cadillac,

Get over your 2nd Street tunnel fetish. Now. It seems it has to be in e.v.e.r.y one of your ads lately (most recently those lame "when you turn your car on does it return the favor" spots) and it's time for a change of scenery, k? So go play in the tunnels on the northbound 110 by the 5. Thxbai.
