Paper Tiger

Over the weekend, Tony Dominguez was busy sculpting a paper maché Guadalupe for Olvera Street’s Casa De Sousa Coffee House that will coincide with “La Virgen De Guadalupe” December 11 and 12. Dominguez is a multi-tasker who must be still recovering from October’s “Fiesta De La Gente," yet he was able to talk about this weeks deadline, guide his assistants to layer the paper in a certain way to create texture, while switching back to give attention to a visiting father and daughter who dropped by when they saw the “big sun” sitting in the corner.

Somewhere in there was the fundraiser being held December 15 at the Barker Block, located across the street, to raise money for new Arte Calidad Cultural Institute (519 S. Hewitt St). Sponsored by Kor Group, VIP tickets are $100 and include dinner, drinks, and a concert (tickets for the concert-only are $25).

I love this time of year and all the celebrations for La Virgen.
