Don't Forget: Bloggers on Ice, Monday

By Eric Richardson
Published: Tuesday, December 11, 2007, at 11:29AM

bloggers on ice Don't forget that this Monday, December 17th, everyone's invited out to Bloggers on Ice at the Pershing Square ice rink. Come meet some of the names you see online (both bloggers and commenters). We started the meetups off with a picnic and continued with a ice cream anti-social, so what better next step that to get on ice skates and see what happens. We'll be showing up at 6:30 to hang out and drink hot chocolate, and then when the 7:30 skate session comes around it'll be time for the true entertainment. More ice rink info is on Pershing Square's site, and we'll be sure to remind you one more time before the big day.

I likely won't. Too far to drive, just to slip and fall on my fanny. By the way, up there in room 835 of the hotel overlooking the square, it was not J. Edgar Hoover who had the Kennedy brothers over the barrel following JFK's 1960 nomination at the Sports Arena, as reported by NPR's 'Frontline' fifteen years ago. (The question being: had JFK been blackmailed into accepting LBJ as his running mate). JFK's secretary had overheard the conversation between the brothers; however, she did not know that the brothers' father was operating behind the scenes, i.e. - pulling strings, had seen that JFK could not be elected without a southerner on the ticket. The father and J. Edgar went way back, had mutual friends in The Family..... Oh, what they (Giancana/Sinatra) would do to Monroe up at Cal Neva Lodge at Tahoe... THAT is another story. But at the start of the convention, Times columnist Jack Smith was looking out of a window above the Olive Street entrance to the hotel when JFK's caravan pulled up. A mob of screaming fans engulfed the candidate before he could get to the front door. Smith felt a chill run down his spine.

^ I believe the hotel in question is the Biltmore.

We'll likely pass on the ice but will stop for a visit with the dogs.
