This toothy piece was part of an April show at the Spring Arts Collective.

The Downtown Art Walk is receiving a Planning Award from the Los Angeles Section of the American Planning Association. The award, to be conferred tomorrow at a ceremony held at SCI-Arc, is in the category of Grassroots Initiative.

The Los Angeles win sends Art Walk on to the state competition. The California Chapter will present its awards at its conference to be held in September in Hollywood.

The Art Walk recently celebrated its fourth anniversary, and is Downtown's largest regular neighborhood event. The second Thursday affair has expanded from its start as a gallery-only affair, and now includes retail stores, restaurants and bars.

The toothy piece shown in Ed's above pic is a customized vaporizer by Brandon Cheek from the Niche.LA Video Art show, Vapor Eyes. The show is now on display at the Arts District Healing Center.

I'm loving all the attention Niche.LA is getting from the Downtown blogs. A pic of my curated video art show, Gallery Rowan, is currently on the Downtown Art Walk homepage. Thanks to Ed for covering both shows.

As as a member of the APA I and Ron Mayben nominated Bert Green for this award. The Art Walk is a way to revitalize the downtown streets.
