The Pershing Square fountain has been dry lately, receiving some needed renovations.

Visitors to Downtown’s Pershing Square have seen a drier than normal scene of late, with the park’s prominent fountain turned off while undergoing major renovation.

Carol Jacobsen, Sr. Management Analyst at Pershing Square, says that the park had hoped to have work complete before its summer concert series began this Tuesday. While that deadline wasn’t reached, the fountain should be back up and running soon.

In the meantime, enjoy the view of some very shiny rocks.

In other Pershing Square news, the park’s cafe space is currently being operated by a BBQ vendor during events. Lunchtime concerts take place Tuesdays and Thursdays from noon - 2pm. Check the concert schedule for other showtimes.

The bigger question is when are they going to repaint it to not look like an 80’s disaster?

Unfortunately, it was a 90’s disaster and powers that be made sure that no public review/input took place. Zilch. Ol’ Sticky Fingers up at city hall was happy enough. Newest predictions have it that oil will be $200 a barrel by the end of the year - just in time for the groundbreaking for glorious ‘Park Fifth’. Right; ain’t gonna happen.

One hopes that now that he is separate from his former concern, that Robert Maguire might take a direct interest in the precincts of Pershing Square, above and beyond his previous involvement in this unfortunate locale.

With oil heading so high, those sheiks will have oodles to invest. Go get ‘em, Rob!

Repaint, refurbish, whatever. The entire square is a hideous eyesore. The whole squre should be bull dozed and replaced with a grassy park just like you find cities like New York, Chicago and San Francisco.

The previous incarnation was a grassy park…and it was unkept and only inhabited by homeless people. It was really bad. Not that I like the new version either. I would like to see part of it a dog park. It does have some elements I like. What about fields of flowers like you see in the Luxembourg Gardens or the Tuilleries in Paris? Colorful, artistic plantings with a beautiful fountain.

Anybody for Dog-Turd Pie?

I like RC’s idea (really); they can hire him/her to pick up after those four-leggers, full time.

A scheme that would combine the faded magic of Broadway and the floral elegance of the Tuilleries just might do it!!!
