Tied candidates Mary Wentz and Scott Bytof check out the quarter to be flipped by City Clerk Karen Kalfayan.

The Downtown Los Angeles Neighborhood Council held its elections last week and results were released yesterday, but it wasn't until this afternoon that Mary Wentz prevailed in the race to be South Park's Resident Director.

After all the votes were counted, there was a tie between Wentz and Scott Bytof. Under DLANC election rules, that meant the two would meet for a coin flip, with the winner taking the seat.

At 4pm this afternoon, Los Angeles City Clerk Karen Kalfayan officiated the flip in a back conference room deep the inside Piper Technical Center, located behind Union Station. Wentz was given the call, and chose heads. Kalfayan made the flip, and on seeing the landing Bytof reached over to shake Wentz' hand in congratulations.

Despite not winning the flip, Bytof will stay involved. Beforehand the two had come to an agreement that whichever candidate did not win would serve as the other's alternate.
