Cornerstone Theater Company’s D’Lo flagged down actors to audition for @traction.

Cornerstone Theater Company is holding a second day of auditions Monday, July 14th, looking for locals to take part in @traction, its upcoming play about, and performed on, Traction Avenue. Audition times are 2:30 - 4:30pm and 6:30 - 9:30pm.

A first block of auditions was held on Sunday during the Joel Bloom Memorial Arts District Block Party. Theater group members roamed the crowd, handing out fliers about the auditions. One took a cue from real estate marketing and produced a sign for flipping, while another dressed as a giant watermelon.

This is actually a clever commentary on what characterizes the Arts District. I hope they find a place for a sign flipper in the play.

The community-based play comes from stories collected around the Arts District over the last several months. No acting experience is necessary. Cornerstone is also seeking visual artists to help dress the street “set.”

Cornerstone's last play, "A Thousand Words," ([previewed here](http://blogdowntown.com/2008/06/3381-more-eyes-on-words)) closed on June 29th.

This is awesome. Cornerstone is easily the best theater company in town. I’d dare say the country.

I’d urge anyone with the slightest interest to audition. Understand, they are not looking for professional talent. They want true locals with something. It is amazing how they take raw talent and present world-class theater.

As for the rest of us, make plans to attend. The results should be compelling theater. And I say this without having any idea what the production is about. Yes, they are that good.

thank you ed, and david too! we so appreciate your support!

a small correction: A THOUSAND WORDS was actually a Padua Playwrights and LADAD project, no affiliation with Cornerstone (except the involvement of yours truly and general neighborhood cheer). the last cornerstone show was our Justice Cycle production of SOMEDAY, which closed at Bootleg on June 22.

gratitude xo

Doh. Thanks, Rachel. That was actually my mistake on A THOUSAND WORDS. That’s what I get for trying to add context into a story. I’ll make a correction.

One of my regrets in life was missing Cornerstone’s adaptation of Candide. They dubbed it Candude and it was staged at the Central Library. The performancers wandered the library and the audience followed them.

I recall a Christmas special at the Mark Taper stage years ago. The image of a chorus line of LAPD officers doing the can-can sticks in my mind. It was a very nice Christmas story, too.

Yes, I’m a total fan.

You know, that’s me twirling my “own-made” sign… Talented, indeed.

thanks eric! it’s no problem at all, theatre-makers are a shifty bunch anyway. i can hardly compartmentalize it all myself, and i’m in the thick of it… i don’t know how anybody else can be expected to do it!

david, you know it’s only a matter of time before we recruit you to be in a show, right??

AND everyone keep your eyes open for ed’s big return to the stage… as one could only expect, he is utterly fabulous in his role!!!
