Hayward Paint Removal Rounds the Home Stretch

The Hayward's addition on Spring street was completed in 1918.

Work to remove paint from the Hayward Hotel's 1918 addition on Spring Street is nearing completion. Just a few spots retain the old brown color, with the rest of the building's face now sporting its historic creamy glazed brick.

The difference is striking. Intricate detail work that had been uniformly covered in a dreary brown now pops out, making what had been an easily overlooked building far more eye-catching.

The work is part of a sizable renovation project taking place at the Hayward, involving facade work and retail improvements. Spaces along Spring and 6th are getting drop ceilings removed and new fronts put in, making them feel much larger and airier.

The Hayward Hotel is owned by Pacfic Investments, which also owns Premiere Towers, City Lofts, Spring Tower Lofts and Milano Lofts. The building contains 525 units of affordable studio apartments.

What an amazing improvement. Cudos to Pacific Investments. I walk by this building almost everyday and the change at street level is truly noticeable with the new storefronts. Plus the renewal of this building's facade and is a welcome enhancement to Spring Street.

WOW! what a huge difference. Thank god for people out there that understand how to bring out the beauty in these historic buildings.

I work across the street, and the building looks great without that paint. Who thought that brown/purple paint was a good idea anyway?
