An Up Close Look at Hayward Details

These medallions on the Hayward Hotel's Spring street addition have a marble center and terracotta detail work.

Yesterday I wrote about the Hayward paint removal wrapping up. Today I ran into Eric Shomof, and he gave me an up close view of the marble medallions that line the top of the Spring street addition's street face.

It's unthinkable that these terracotta and marble details were simply covered up with brown paint until just a few weeks ago. In the photo above you can still see a few areas that remain for crews to touch up.

Improvements like this, going on all over Downtown in different scales, make me pretty excited to see what the neighborhood's going to look like in a few more years.

Anyone know any details about the Hayward jumper from yesterday afternoon? I just saw his legs dangling out the window and the police negotiator tryin to talk him down.

Well, he didn't jump. Here's a short writeup in the Daily Breeze (slow news day down there?):

Thanks, never would have guessed to hunt for the story there. I did notice the jump/landing site was relatively untouched, so I figured that was a good sign.

They can shine up the building all they want...but it's the residents that'll keep it most interesting :)
