On Saturday, fans of historic theaters get a chance to get up close and personal with one of Broadway’s great venues as the Los Angeles Historic Theatre Foundation hosts “All About the Orpheum.” The free event offers attendees “an insider’s look” at the Orpheum, and a demonstration of the venue’s Wurlitzer pipe organ.

The Los Angeles Historic Theatre Foundation was founded in the 1980s, but lay dormant until recently. The opening night screening of “In Search of a Midnight Kiss” at the Downtown Film Festival marked the group’s return to Broadway.

Saturday’s event promises to be the first of many, with the LAHTF planning to continue the “All About” series as a monthly affair. The flyer for Saturday says that the meetings “support the LAHTF mission to raise awareness and encourage public participation in protecting, preserving, restoring and sustaining Southern California’s historic theatres.”

There are two showtimes for Saturday’s festivities: 10:30am and 1pm. Orpheum GM and historian Ed Kelsey will tell the theater’s story, and photos from its past will be up on the big screen.

More information can be found at LAHTF’s website. The Orpheum is located at 842 S. Broadway.
