Thursday: Take It to the Bank With Us
DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — This Thursday, during the Downtown Art Walk, join us at the historic Farmers & Merchants Bank at 4th and Main for “Take It to the Bank,” a kickoff event for blogdowntown’s new non-profit effort. We’re going to have art, music and live screenprinting by Hit+Run.
blogdowntown’s mission is to create a conversation about life in Downtown Los Angeles, and to give those who live and work here the information they need to be more involved citizens of this community. This event is a chance for us to meet new people and spread the word on what we’re doing.
Downtown’s Little Radio helped us put together the night’s entertainment, and they brought in Hit + Run. If you’re not familiar, Hit + Run does live screenprinting. You bring a shirt, a jacket, or whatever you want art put on, choose from a number of designs, tell them where you want it, and they make it happen. Hit+Run does events around the world, but have been associated with Downtown for a long time, taking part in events like Create:Fixate.
The name “Take It to the Bank” carries a little extra irony in today’s financial market. It’s a play on the event’s location, but also a lighthearted reference to blogdowntown’s new life as a non-profit. We believe that this site is an important public resource for Downtown, and we want to see it continue to grow and tell the story of all that’s going on. To do that is going to take money, and we’re just about to kick off a fundraising drive that we hope will allow us to turn some great ideas into reality.
So Thursday as you make your way around Art Walk, drop by the bank at 4th & Main and say hi. Bring a t-shirt and walk away with a cool, custom piece of fashion.
