LAFD Handles Fire on Hill Street in May Co Annex

By Eric Richardson
Published: Wednesday, October 15, 2008, at 04:24PM

Update Below... Via LAFD_Alert, notice of a fire being worked right now at 830 S. Hill. Consolidating a few notices, 62 firefighters are on scene handling a fire that is confined to one occupant on the 9th floor of the building. Hill street is closed between 7th and 9th streets.

830 S. Hill is one address of the May Company Annex to the Hamburger Department Store building, which takes up most of the block between Broadway and Hill streets.

Update (4:26pm): And just like that, it's done:

UPDATE: 830 S Hill St KNOCKDOWN: 84 FF's took 26 minutes; Confined to 'unit' (?) ; No injury; NFD - Brian Humphrey###

We owe a lot of gratitude to the Los Angeles Fire Department for their amazing response to incidents such as this one. In the twenty minutes between first notice and knockdown, 84 firefighters responded and handled a blaze in one of Downtown's great historic buildings. That's impressive.

I don't know the details of this fire but I have to say this is one of the most unkept buildings in Los Angeles. The landlord ought to be ashamed of what he has created. The state of this beautiful building is a disgusting mess and the landlord needs to clean it up immediately!
