Modern Mickey Comes to Art Walk

Bloc28 brings a four day show to 4th and Spring November 13 - 16.

Mickey's coming to the Historic Core, and it looks like he's picked up some street cred. Emblazoned on the side of the Continental Gallery, the first floor make-shift art space in the Continental Building, are large signs promoting BLOC28 and an oh too hip (and perhaps a little badass) Mickey Mouse. He's coming to the Downtown Art Walk next week for a limited engagement.

BLOC28 by Disney is a contemporary twist on the world famous character created by Walter E. Disney. The same Disney family that brought you Steamboat Willie on the 18th of November 1928, is updating their figurehead to contemporary Graf art standards. BLOC28 was launched according to the bloc28.com website in April of 2007. This collaboration between Disney and famous street artists like Mear One is a merchandiser's dream come true. Hats, shirts and art showcasing a modern Mickey Mouse sold out at their last show, but new products and art are slated for a November release at the November Art Walk.

While Mear One was featured at a show on Sunset earlier this year, there will be another group next week Downtown. The show, entitled "BLOC28 Series 2," will feature artists Chaz Bojorquez, RIME, EWOK, SUIKO, and TENGA all doing their interpretation of 'the mouse' in gallery quality art and merchandise.

The show will be run Thurday, November 13, through Sunday, November 16.

The peices at the show was really unique. I would have to say that my favorites were the works done by SLICK and MEAR. Off topic: Does anyone know if the galleries, or business owners participating in the Artwalk need to have a "PERMIT" to have live music (amplified sound/ band) outside of their establishment? I saw several bands playing in front of galleries and was wondering if the business owners needed a permit to have music during artwalk hours....

Thank you, exaktoh
