What to Do on the DASH This Weekend

Remedy Lounge, at Flower and Wilshire, is one of three Downtown bars to open this week.

It's week three for the Late Night DASH Holiday pilot, and Downtown offers a lot of options for residents and visitors. The theme this week: new nightlife. Three new watering holes made their debut this week and are certainly worthy of attention.

For those who don't remember, the Late Night DASH Holiday Pilot is a six-week program to bring nighttime transportation to Downtown. It's a free shuttle connecting L.A. Live, the Historic Core and the Music Center to the 7th / Metro Red Line station. Both the DASH and the Red Line are running until 3am.

Cole's: The return of Cole's was officially marked this week by an event Thursday night for the Los Angeles Conservancy. Tonight the bar makes its first public appearance at 8:30pm for Repeal Day, the 75th anniversary of the Repeal of Prohibition. Also participating are Casey's, Golden Gopher and Broadway Bar, all 213 Ventures and all on the DASH route.

The Association: Opening under the radar last night was The Association, the bar next door to Cole's. It got a great write-up in the L.A. Times today, and is quite the impressive build-out. Think dark and loud, but not pretentious. We'll have a full write-up later, but no reason for you to wait until then to check it out.

Remedy: At Wilshire and Flower, Remedy also opened under the radar this week. It's connected to Provecho, a new Mexican restaurant. We'll have write-ups on both next week, but the lounge makes a great spot to get a drink this weekend, at sits just around the corner from the DASH's 7th / Metro stop.

Block Party: The Old Bank District Block Party takes over the streets tomorrow evening from 6pm to midnight. blogdowntown (or rather verbdowntown) will have a table, so drop by and say hi from 6pm to 9pm or so.

If you hop on the DASH, be sure to look for the handy two-sided route cards that offer a map and service information. You can also grab the cards at 213 bars and the Block Party.

My husband and I rode the FREE Downtown Dash last Friday night to check out the LA Live stuff. We got on at 4th and Main. Waited only 30 seconds before a friendly lady bus-driver, with a big smile, picked us up. We were the only ones on the bus a 6:30 pm. We stopped on Grand to load onto another waiting Dash where two people were sitting. (They loaded us onto another bus to keep the two buses on schedule). We met another very friendly bus driver who chatted with us our whole route to LA Live. I commented that this route would be perfect for "bar hopping" since we passed many of them. He laughed. Then we were dropped off at LA Live, after the bus driver recommended the best stop. On our return trip, we again only waited 30 seconds before enough DASH came. We hopped on and exited at 2nd and Main to walk down two blocks to check out "Spitz" that just opened in Little Tokyo. If you haven't been to Spitz, check out the food and the decor of the place. Really a great experience. They have the best sweet potato french fries. (not everything is Sushi these days in Little Tokyo).
