DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — L.A. Live's Yardhouse doesn't open to the public until Sunday, but on Thursday the restaurant played host to a celebration honoring local children who saved lives by calling 9-1-1.
The lunchtime celebration lauded Darnell Mitchell, Micayla Dinkins, Maria Perez, and Sheraz Kari as Local 9-1-1 Heroes for their emergency-readiness.
Each exhibited shyness receiving their awards in front of an audience that got to hear a recording of each 9-1-1 call. The crowd included 9-1-1 dispatchers, LAPD officers, Sheriffs deputies, Councilwoman Jan Perry and family members. The audience wasn't shy, beaming as the tapes highlighted each child's calm demeanor during tough situations.
It’s not a bad idea for adults to take some time to remind themselves how to properly use 9-1-1. No one wants to be shown up by an eight-year-old.
