Thanks for a Great 2008

In this last day of 2008, I just wanted to take a moment to say how much I've enjoyed running blogdowntown this year. As I mentioned in the pledge drive kickoff, this year has been one of big growth for the site. We've now run 825 stories in 2008, which equates to just a hair under 250,000 words.

In case you're wondering, over the last four years blogdowntown has only run about 577,000 words, so this year's rise in output was even more impressive than it looks on a story count basis. 2007's stories averaged 237 words. 2008's average 303 words, a jump of about 28%.

Maybe that means we're just putting out more hot air, but I like to think instead we're bringing a little more depth and detail to information we offer about Downtown.

I'd also like to thank those of you who have already participated in the pledge drive. We've raised $375 in individual contributions since kicking things off on the 23rd. I'm looking forward to sharing more about the great ideas we've got for 2009 in the upcoming weeks. We need your support to keep making this site happen.

Enjoy the evening tonight (I read on blogdowntown that there are plenty of options to choose from, and we'll see you in 2009.

Mr. e,

it's simply become time for you to realize that you've come up, not down, with an intense case of topolepsy. Welcome to the club and be forewarned: that you may never lose it. Your fascination with the geography, the culture and future prospect of Downtown L..A. - may it never cease.

May the Downtown Connector be all underground. May doggies run near Third & Main. May a carousel whirl our while at Pershing Square (adieu Robert Graham). May a monument to L.A. surprise one and all at Pico and Hope. May proponents of The Grand desist. Mr. Broad: please step in and build your museum there instead. May MOCA expand upward, block out the view of that awful hotel facade. May angels take flight - up the side of Bunker Hill. May Maguire rise anew, only in Downtown. May Trader Joe arrive, with 15 varieties of queso de cabra.

May we all have a better new year. All for Downtown and Downtown for all.

Eric~ I am so happy to be part of Downtown. As I approach the second year of living Downtown, I know that I would never be happier anywhere else! The future of LA is downtown, the center of the city will rise anew and most importantly the idea of walking in LA is within our grasp. Here's to all the good work you do; I am delighted every time I log in and discover more things about downtown that the rest of the city is missing. Happy 2009
