It's Monday, February 2, and on the City agendas this week are Quimby updates, recycling chutes, Fashion District BID, Citywide WIFI and more money for the 1st Street Bridge widening.

MONDAY: At Budget and Finance committee, the first eleven items are in closed session as the councilmembers consider settlements in various lawsuits against the city.

TUESDAY: Three committees and Council are in session.

At Planning and Land Use Management committee, CF 08-3349 asks how the city will implement "Complete Streets" as recently passed by the California Assembly. The idea of Complete Streets is to provide for all users (pedestrians, cyclists and autos) in the design of streets.

CF 08-0603 is an ordinance requiring that buildings putting in trash chutes install recycling chutes as well.

At Council, item 19 is CF 07-0472, the first of a few items in the renewal of the Fashion District II BID. The BID reached the necessary 50% mark on January 19.

Item 38, CF 08-0179, involves housing bonds for 740 S. Olive, the affordable senior housing project recently purchased by the Related Companies.

At Information Technology and General Services committee, the councilmembers will get an update on the concept of citywide WIFI (CF 07-3263), introduced by the Mayor in February of 2007. Basic conclusion by the working group? Not feasible.

WEDNESDAY: Five committees and Council are in session.

Arts, Parks, Health and Aging committee has a pair of Quimby related items in for hearings. First up is CF 09-0116, a report on Recreation and Parks' Citywide Needs Assessment and the state of Quimby. The second is CF 08-3381, Councilwoman Jan Perry's motion to allow the use of Quimby funds to acquire property via foreclosure auctions.

Audits and Government Efficiency committee will hear CF 08-0816, a performance audit on the construction of the new LAPD headquarters south of City Hall. This is followup to an audit done by the Controller's office early last year.

Also on the agenda is CF 08-0508-S2, a City Engineer request for $7 million in additional funding for the repair and widening of the 1st Street Bridge. The original project was proposed at $8.55 million, but it's now up to nearly $77 million.
