Spring Street Vault Explosion Makes For A Busy LAFD Morning
Ed Fuentes
DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — Film crews scattered and traffic was detoured this morning as an electrical vault under the intersection of 4th and Spring was the site of an explosion at roughly 10:30 am. A manhole cover was tossed in the air and eyewitness accounts say black thick smoke drifted from underneath the street.
A film crew on 4th street were told to evacuate by LAFD, and nearby buildings, including the Continental, were briefly without power.
4th street has just been reopened, but the return of individual businesses on the stretch -- including Lost Souls Cafe, Warung Cafe, and Rocket Pizza -- may vary. Spring street between 3rd and 5th was closed during the evacuation, but reopened once the investigation began.
