Sunday: Win Tickets to See Busta Rhymes at Club Nokia

Busta Rhymes

Looking for something to do this Sunday? Busta Rhymes, one of hip-hop's more colorful and enduring artists, makes a trip to Club Nokia for a 9:30pm show. Tickets are on sale for $35, but we've got five pairs of tickets for blogdowntown readers who want to go.

While the casual fan may these days associate Rhymes more with arrests than with albums, his new release hits stores on March 24, titled "Back to My BS."

The Sunday show is one of the L.A. Weekly's picks of the week:

Between his acting career, his unsavory legal troubles and the simple fact that he’s seemingly been around forever, it’s sometimes easy to forget that Busta Rhymes is still an active recording artist — especially when you consider that beyond the awesomely Daft Punk–jacking “Touch It,” dude hasn’t really made an unforgettable record inside the 21st century. That said, if early singles and leaks are to believed, Busta’s upcoming Back on My B.S. (due out March 24) could have what it takes for a comeback: “Don’t Touch Me (Throw da Water on ’Em)” is a five-alarm banger with no shortage of top-shelf battle-rap boasts; “Decision” resists a good-intentions overload despite cameos by Common and John Legend; “Arab Money” has a beat as hot as its lyrical content is dubious. Busta’s long been one of hip-hop’s most energetic (and capable) live performers; given the gas he’s got in the tank right now, expect fire tonight. (Mikael Wood)

Want to go? Just leave a comment telling us why we should pick you. We'll close off the contest Friday at 4pm and alert winners via email or Facebook.

Hey Blogdowntown! You guys are great for always giving away tickets to your readers! I love it!

I would love to see Busta Rhymes in concert. I remember dancing around the front yard w/ friends to his iconic tracks like "Where My Eyes Can See" during my tween years! :D I can only imagine how high energy and fun his show will be!

I've an avid concert-goer and even though hip hop is def a big part of my musical taste, I've never been to a hip hop show. Well, I guess that's not true, but smaller, low-key events of friends and friends of friends. I'd love to see him live!!!!

PICK ME!!! :D lol.

Thanks again, Blogdowntown!!

Not many people know this about me, but I am a first-generation west coast hip-hop artist that had a good run in the rap game. Now that I'm a community activist for Skid Row, I don't get out much because of my devotion to what I do.

Although I don't know Busta Bust personally, he is from my era in rap music and I can totally relate to his vibe. Without many opportunities to enjoy myself, this would make a wonderful "get-a-way" for myself and someone else from Skid Row, hoping that there will be TWO tickets.

Thanks in advance Blogdowntown!

Blogdowntown,

I would love to see Busta Rhymes in concert at Club Nokia! He is one of the only hip-hop artists that I truly respect for his contributions to the genre. Busta knows how to keep it true and keeps his family and friends around him - promoting their success as much as he promotes his own.

Busta has so much energy and I'd love to see that on stage! I've loved his music since "Woo-hah, I Got Ya'll All in Check!"

Choose me!!!! :)

Hmm. Well you should pick me because I had a huge crush on Busta growing up. I don't care what anyone says about him not recording a memorable record- in hip hop, songs don't have that long of a shelf life. Unless you're 2Pac or Biggie- but they are further immortalized by their underground battles and unsolved deaths. Are these seats in the front row? Because I need Busta to see me if I ever want him to notice me. ;) I do hope he lets his hair get long again though- he looks naked to me without them- but naked might not be a bad thing...

Disappointing to see a ticket giveaway for a known anti-gay artist. Further, his support - especially by mothers -- bodes negatively for this blog.

Not cool: I'm guessing you don't want the tickets.

Actually, I do.

I'd like to donate them to the Lawrence King Trust.

In case you were too busy trying to be coy to remember, Lawrence was the 15 year old who was shot in the face and killed while in class last year by another student for being gay.

Hi Eric!

I read blog downtown every single day! I love to read all of your updates about downtown and I am looking forward to living in downtown in a couple of years when I graduate from USC.

I would love these tickets because I am on of the biggest Busta Rhymes fans! I remember listening to him when I was only 8 or 9 years old and just memorizing all the lyrics to his songs.

If I won the tickets I would definitely take my brother who is also a big Busta Rhymes fan. We have been very busy lately and usually don't have a lot of opportunities to hang out and I know we would have a blast at this concert!

I am excited for Busta Rhymes new album and I am excited to be able to hear his new material at th concert. I have heard from many people that he gives one of the best shows in the music industry and I would be honored to win these tickets!

Thanks for offering these tickets! I hope my brother and I win them!

Hey Blogdowntown!! I would love to take my husband to see this concert. He is a trueblood punk rocker(think CircleJerks, not Greenday) & I think it would be great to have him experience a Busta consert. Busta Rhymes has a great sound & I would truly love love to see him live. I remember listening to him in highschool, he is one of the few rappers with his own sound. With my husband being out of work since November this would be a great, wonderful treat. Thanks a bunch for the opportunity to win tickets!!

Hmblogdowntown you should choose me because I'm too poor to get busts rhyme tickets but have enough money to read your site everyday.
