DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — Philanthropist Glorya Kaufman is the guest of honor at the Music Center this morning, where the facility is announcing her gift of $20 million to its dance endowment. It is the second Downtown dance donation in just over a month for Kaufman, who in February donated $1 million to Inner City Arts.
The official announcement will take place at a 9:45am press conference, but the L.A. Times has the details in a story that went live just after midnight. Music Center officials say that the endowment will create a $1 million yearly revenue stream that it plans to use as funding for dance programming. While the Music Center does not have a resident dance company, it brings in outside dance groups and runs educational dance programs.
Kaufman has given a number of large dance-related donations, including a gift of $18 million to UCLA and $6 million to Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in New York. Inner City Arts named its program the Glorya Kaufman Dance Academy after her recent gift.
