DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — The Pershing Square Farmers Market returns today, offering fresh produce in the park from 11:30am to 3pm. Last week was the market's first at its new home, and early results are good. "We have some things to work out with vendors loading and unloading," says Pershing Square's Louise Capone. "But it was packed at lunch. All the tables and benches were filled."
The market opened in the summer of 2005 on 5th street adjacent to the Central Library. Security and traffic concerns led to event's relocation one block east to Pershing Square.
In Pershing Square, the market was positioned to wrap around the fountain, with prepared foods along the park's 6th street edge.
Some residents may have been a bit surprised to visit the market last week and see a sign saying "No Dogs Allowed" in the normally pet-friendly park. "Please, make it clear that dogs are loved in the park that day too," Capone asks. Health department regulations won't allow canines near the food, but pets are still welcome to the rest of the park.
The Pershing Square market is run by non-profit Raw Inspiration, who also run the recently relaunched Thursday market at 7+Fig and the Friday market at Bank of America Plaza.

The farmers market is on a safe and steady course. With a blend of great squash and summer lunchtime concerts, which will no doubt be moved to Wednesdays Pershing will be a the place to go for lunch mid week.
