DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — Those looking to drive around Downtown this weekend should take note of a trio of events that look to make this process just a little more adventurous. Two film shoots close off streets in the Historic Core and Civic Center, while Sunday a parade makes its way through South Park.
On Saturday and Sunday, from 6am to 8pm, the Institute for the Development of Enhanced Perceptual Awareness -- a fancifully-named production company started in 2001 by Michael Bay and Scott Gardenhour -- will have closures on 1st street from Main to San Pedro and Los Angeles between Temple and 2nd to film a commercial for Mitsubishi. Despite Bay's attachment, the scene description lists no explosions.
On Sunday, look for closures on Spring street between 4th and 6th and 5th street between Main and Spring as filming takes place for Disney's "The Surrogate," starring Bruce Willis. Here, the scene description is more exciting:
Exterior dialogue. Near hits & misses. Bus stunt. Crane/ wire work. Stunt sequence with high speed stunt driving.
Also on Sunday, Vaisakhi 2009 brings members of the Sikh community to the Convention Center to celebrate the 310th Anniversary of Baisakhi. Included in the event is a parade that sticks close to the facility. Expect some closures between 2:30 and 5:30pm on a route that starts at the Convention Center and goes up Figueroa to 11th, west to Cherry, south to Pico and east to Gilbert Lindsay Plaza. Up to 10,0000 participants are expected.

It's time to grab your camera and get some good images! (bruce willis? and maybe transformers?)...
Maybe we could institute the "movie walk" the second weekend of every month...
