By Eric Richardson
Published: Wednesday, April 15, 2009, at 08:21AM

A pickup truck struck a pedestrian at the entrance to the 3rd Street tunnel this morning, leading LAPD to close off the street while an investigation was conducted.

The incident took place at approximately 7am, according to an LAPD officer on the scene. The vehicle was traveling westbound on 3rd street.

I could almost bet my right nut that it was the pedestrian fault, lately I've seen an increase "jaywalks" specially from the new residents or in high pedestrian activity events such as "artwalk", however the LAPD won't issue any tickets or citations because the new residents are not at all like the "illegal immigrants" that cross in the intersections of 6th. and Broadway and 7th. during business hours. But that's a good thing, right? F' "illegal immigrants"!

Oscar: I can assure you that plenty of new residents have gotten jaywalking tickets.

Get bikes in the street on April 15, 2009, at 01:41PM – #3

As someone who rides a bike, I'm constantly shocked by the assholism of people in cars who don't give cyclists room. Yesterday, a woman chose to turn east from Broadway onto 6th as I had already cycled north through the intersection. I regret not having a tire chain with me as I would have easily thumped the trunk of her car. And I think bikes shouldn't be on the sidewalk but claiming the space in the street.

When does the city get with it and start a pedestrian & cyclist awareness program? If downtown is becoming more of a destination to live, motorists need to be made aware of that.

There is nothing in my earlier post that wasn't already posted here. So, as I said earlier before being censored:

At least Oscar got one thing right: F' Illegal Immigrants!

Actually...there is a case for defensive jaywalkers, who actually are able to watch where they are going, and can estimate how fast that car is coming at them who are a lot safer than people who step off the curb and get smashed by a car who is making a right and has never encountered a pedestrian before. (LA is not famous for its pedestrians.)

When you are a good jaywalker, you watch where you are going.....rather than depended on bus drivers to give peds the right of way. I can't tell you how many times I have almost been hit when the light was in my favor.

This one major city where jaywalking is relatively rare...and has been so for the last forty years.

Assuming the person hit was a jaywalker is not a safe bet.

nanorich is right.

MORE people will die in LA obeying the walk signals than jaywalking. Period. I can't count how many times I step off the curb on a walk signal and see some a--hole looking left as they turn right.

Oscar has it dead wrong.

get bikes OFF the street! on April 18, 2009, at 05:39PM – #8

Get bikes off the streets, i agree with your awareness program....i see multiple near-death incidents every day coming home from work. but i think the ones at fault are more often the bicyclists who weave in and out of traffic in a suicidal fashion! i had to laugh when i read your post, u woulda thumped their car with your tire chain? the way some of u cyclists ride on the LEFT side of the street! ride 10 mph in a lane of cars going 30! come out of nowhere and expect the drivers to see you!? if i knew you were all so pompous about owning the streets, i wouldnt feel so bad about wanting to stick a golf club out of my window and clothesline some of u morons. at least that way we dont have to go to jail for vehicular manslaughter when ur daredevil antics cost you your life.

we've seen your ass behind the wheel of your car after a few drinks -- yes, we understand what weaving process

yes, I will get in a left turn lane when making a left turn on my bike. that's the law.

it's not about owning the streets - the laws put bikes in the streets for a reason and motorists need to pay attention to bikes. it's not going to kill you to give some room to a form of transportation that doesn't pollute and that gives you exercise.

does it make your dick feel bigger when you're aggressive with someone on a bike?

that's tragic, man

Besides from your mulitple references to fallic objects, nothing in your response made sense to me. im not talking about getting in the left turn lane, im talking about the left side of the street, going against traffic when no cars are present... its basically jay-"biking"

See thats what i love about the auto vs bicycle debate, bicyclists stick their nose up in the air as if their #$&% dont stink because they get exercise and save the environment. makes them think they should be protected like endangered animals or something.

We do pay attention to bikes (thats why youre not road kill by now)
