Who Are Downtown's All-Stars?

The Dodgers are participating in a campaign by Major League Baseball and PEOPLE magazine to find "People All-Stars Among Us," recognizing individuals who have served their community in extraordinary ways.

That got me thinking... Who are the individuals that deserve a spot on Downtown's All-Star team for their contributions?

Downtown has been changed in amazing ways over the last decade, and that has only happened thanks to the tireless work of numerous people who cared about the neighborhood.

Who are the people who may fly under the radar but are making a big difference in the Downtown community?

Give them a shout out here, and maybe consider nominating them for official recognition as well. Through this Friday, individuals can log on to http://www.peopleallstars.com/ and submit their Los Angeles All-Star nominations. A group of finalists will be chosen, and then the public will vote on one L.A. winner to be honored at the 2009 All-Star game in St. Louis.

Although he's not "under the radar," I'd have to say Jose Huizar. :)

Hal Bastian for his unending behind-the-scenes work to make Downtown a better place. Truly, this man knows no sleep!

My top #1 pick is Ginny-Marie (Case) Brideau! She volunteers for so many things, is always available to help solve problems, and served ably as an elected Neighborhood Council member. (Just check her voicemail one day, and you'll get an idea of all she handles: Filming issues, Art Walk issues, DTLA child-friendly issues, etc.--)

My other picks in no particular order: Marie Kardiban, Dion Joseph, and Capt. Blake Chow;

Bert Green// Richard Schave (Art Walk mavens)

Eric Richardson and BLOG DOWNTOWN, of course.

I nominate Stephen Friday for his photos, his work on Angelenic and for starting the (short-lived) Hideaway/Hideout at the also-defunct Tranquility Base.

The guy in the corner of 7th and Broadway in front of the Clifton's because he never stops dancing, yelling unintelligible sounds and wearing a sombrero... gosh he's happy!
