DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — With fans lined up on Chick Hearn Court and Nokia Plaza waiting for their American Idol of choice, it wasn't that surprising that a wave of squeals could be heard.
The screams were for David Archuleta, who was Season 7's runner-up in what is known as the David vs David match-up, a hotly contested sing-off that changed the face of television.
At least, that's what a 13-year-old fan told me when she sniffed at my ignorance of such important pop culture matters.
For her, this week's NBA playoff games between the Lakers and Nuggets, being held just across the street at the Staples Center, are merely a backdrop to the more important events taking place inside the Nokia Theatre.
The final voting took place after last night's performances, and either Adam Lambert or Kris Allen will be named this season's winner during a results show that kicks off live for the east coast at 5pm Pacific Time.

David Archuleta is such a talented singer/songwriter. David's vocals are phenomenal and if you ever get the chance to see David perform live - you've got to go...he is awesome on stage. David's self-titled album is amazing! All this talent and gorgeous too!

archuleta is awesome - and on need not worry... this kid has fans from the teen/tween set to adults... that's the right foundation for sucess, that appeal across all ages... he's so talented, and very handsome - we love him.
