DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — The 24th Los Angeles Marathon got underway early this morning, with a 7:24am start time for the main field. Runners set out with perfect conditions, cool and cloudy despite the race's much later start date this year.
Wheelchair racers were the first to leave the starting line at 5th and Figueroa, with a 6:55am start. They were followed by the hank-crank racers at 7am, the elite women at 7:08am and the main field at 7:24am. The elite men and women compete for a $100,000 prize given to the first runner from either sex to cross the finish line.
The first wheelchair racers should cross the marathon finish line around 8:30am, with the lead runners coming to the ribbon soon after 9:30am.

The winners have finished, but people will be coming in all through the morning and into the afternoon. Some street closures will last until 5pm, but most of the course will clear up well before then.
