Workers install the Ritz Carlton lion on the top of the hotel and condo tower at L.A. Live.

Dangling from the tower crane, workers today installed the Ritz Carlton lion on the east side of L.A. Live's hotel and condo tower. The exterior of the 54-story tower is rapidly nearing completion, with all but the last bits and pieces of glass in place as of last month.

Once finished, the structure will hold the 879-room J.W. Marriott (floors four through 21), the 123-room Ritz Carlton hotel (floors 22 through 26) and the 224-unit Residences at the Ritz Carlton (floors 27 through 52).

The hotels are slated for a February 2010 opening, but on a recent site visit an AEG representative mentioned that the first event in the adjoining ballrooms is actually scheduled for January.

I'm really excited for the hotel to open! It's too bad that I won't be able to get a room on the upper floors.

benjamin: Via the blogdowntown helicopter, of course... Or maybe just a long lens off a nearby building.

Condos run to the 52nd floor, and then the very top is utility systems.

This is good, but what I really like is the Lakers banner they put up. That's team spirit! Love it.
