Woman Dead After Fall From Hayward Fire Escape

6th street was closed from Broadway to Spring street this evening as LAPD officers investigated a woman's fatal fall from a fire escape on the Hayward Hotel. As of 10:30pm, a white sheet covered the body where it lay in the alley just south of 6th street.

Just down the sidewalk, a handful of Hayward residents stood near the entrance to their building, sharing conjecture on what might have taken place. They decided that no one had heard any gunshots, but did discuss the possibility of foul play.

The Hayward Hotel, located at the corner of 6th and Spring, contains 525 units of Section 8 affordable housing. The building was renovated as affordable housing in the early 1990s and went through a tumultuous period of violence and crime before becoming much more stable in recent years.

The building is now owned by Pacific Investments, which also owns Premiere Towers, Spring Tower Lofts, City Lofts and the Milano Lofts.
