Around the June Art Walk

The craft parking lot on Main just north of 5th.

A mellow crowd matched the mellow weather for the June Downtown Art Walk, but the streets of Gallery Row were still busy with art lovers and food trucks on Thursday night.

Competition from the Lakers' NBA Finals game and a crackdown on the Art Walk party scene gave this walk a more subdued feel, but it may also have brought out a new type of Art Walker. Several strollers were spotted among the gallery mix.

Thursday proved to be a great night if you like food from a truck. Both the heavily-hyped Kogi BBQ truck and the newer Don Chow truck were on the streets. Visitors in search of dessert had the Coolhaus ice cream sandwich truck. Even the mild June weather could not keep passersby from indulging in a few frozen treats.

Laker game or not - the night got crowded. It was great to feel the street's heartbeat a little stronger last night.

I'm thinking of having a motorcycle helmet painted. I took plenty of cards from artists who express extraordinary talent in combining the cultural authentic with urban edge.

Events like these are what makes LA special. I remember being young and going to the Westwood Arts Festival. Great to see the LA is still bringing culture to its residents.
