Today is Monday, June 22, and this week City Council continues to concentrate on the budget situation. Also on the calendar are a new City Librarian, historical artifacts and plan approvals for a Figueroa tower.

MONDAY: Only Budget & Finance committee finds its way onto the City Council calendar for Monday. Various items implementing the city's ever-evolving budget are under consideration, including motions to restore $37 million in salary funding to the fire department and to restore two positions at El Pueblo.

At the Board of Public Works is a proposal by EDAW to assess historic artifacts found during recent work to widen Temple street east of Alameda. 1434 artifacts associated with seven historic features will be analyzed, as will 425 artifacts found in isolation. The firm provided archeological monitors during the construction.

TUESDAY: Council's in session and joined by three committee meetings.

At Council, item 31 is CF 09-1467, a motion authorizing a one-year run of street banners promoting El Pueblo.

At Planning and Land Use Management, CF 07-3118-S2 is a motion that would instruct the CAO to craft a system that would allow the Los Angeles Arena Land Company to reimburse the city for the personnel costs related to plan checks, signage projects, etc in the L.A. Live area (the Los Angeles Sports and Entertainment District). While it may seem counter-intuitive at first, this is something the Land Co. is asking for. Typically they get faster processing in return.

CF 09-1440 is zoning changes necessary for the entitlement of the proposed 43-story tower at 1340 S. Figueroa. Curbed LA has renderings of the building which would feature 273 condo units.

In closed session, the committee will also get an update on various litigation involving the city and billboard companies. The council file, CF 08-1573-S1 doesn't contain any tasty info, but does hint that there's a possible settlement offer.

WEDNESDAY: Again, three committees join Council on the calendar.

At Council, item 17 is CF 09-1427, the appointment of Mr. Martin J. Gomez as permanent City Librarian. Gomez was most recently head of the San Mateo County Library, and has also worked in San Francisco, Brooklyn, Oakland, Chicago, Sacramento and San Diego.

At Transportation committee are a pair of bicycle-related items continued from the cycling-themed meeting on 6/17.
