Long lines outside American Apparel's 2008 flea market, held at its Downtown factory.

Downtown-based American Apparel will be holding a factory flea market on July 4th weekend, using its massive parking lot to lay out massive quantities of marked down product. The 2008 affair brought long lines and lengthy waits, but we've got line jumping tickets for readers interested in making their way to 7th and Alameda next weekend.

The sale takes place on Saturday, July 4, and Sunday, July 5. Presale tickets, which can also be purchased online, are $10 and cover admission, line jumping, a $5 gift card and a taco.

We've got five pairs of tickets for blogdowntown readers, courtesy of American Apparel. Leave us a comment making a case why you should win, and be sure to include an email address or Facebook info. Entry closes at 6pm on Monday.

I should win them... because I wouldn't go otherwise! No...? To help the economy? No...? Because all I wear are AA tees and tanks and jeans and I need an update on colors!

I should win because after paying rent in downtown I can only afford flee market prices. :) Just kidding...kinda...but really, it would be a blast and I would get my discounted-shopping on.

I should win them because last year we lived in riverside and drove to LA to but got there super late. this year i live a mile away from the factory on Alameda and would love to be able to go hassle free. pick me!

i should win because i don't even own enough t-shirts to make it through a work week. Plus I will buy Ed & Eric the cheapest thing I can find.

I should win because I would ride my bike and totally fit in riding home with a trash bag full of clothes.

I think I should win because I am a huge am appy fan (I really like how their t-shirts and sweatshirts fit) but unfortunately I am a poor and hungry college student dealing with college loans/rent/other annoying financial things. Please give a ticket to me!!

I should win because I would go on a shopping spree buying everything AA to spare my sadness of Michael's death. I'll be my way to pay tribute.

I should win because: (i) AA is super over-priced for what it is and this sale should bring the prices back down to earth where we live; (ii) that was pretty funny how Woody Allen sued the guy who started AA and kicked his ass, I thought; and (iii) maybe if I go I will have a sexual encounter similar to the ones suggested in all the AA ads....by which I mean, with a slutty nerd who loves the 80's and who's not technically "hot" but who for some crazy reason has semi-exposed breasts and a shit-load of sex appeal.

I should win because I love American Apparel for being a company which actually seems to walk the walk in terms of not only creating jobs in the U.S. (in the fashion industry no less), but also providing their employees with great benefits and education opportunities, all while keeping it local in Downtown LA!

I'm just kidding, I need the tickets cuz I'm broke!

I should win because of the dozens of events you've had tickets for, there hasn't been nobody I like or now, so this is finally something I can go to, besides the fact that I am a AA costumer for the reasons we all know... It's defnitely worth paying a little bit extra in the name of human decency. One of the weirdest thing I bought was a male speedo...

I should win because I'll moon-walk all the way there. And I'm a student that will be around 200k in debt when I finish grad school in a couple years. Dead serious about that amount, unfortunately.

I shouldn't win, period.

I once had lunch with Mossimo and the Mrs. on their back terrace, the one from which one of the Getty's once decided to end it all on Bellagio Road in Bel Air, had proceeded to jump over the ballustrade and plunged to his death.

My friend and neighbor once gave me one of Mossimo's shirts. It had been well-used by her husband and the husband then threw a hissy-fit. I wear it now and then, during the summer season, whenever I want to look grunge, along with a pair of very well worn oxfords that I use to garden with. Hereabouts, no one looks twice at such apparel and that suits me SO fine.

Later on, Moss asked me to do separate work for him, behind my boss's back so to speak. Given who the third party in the deal was, I thankfully said no and that was that. No way was I going to give that third party bastard any leverage. But I'll always remember Moss's generosity.

Agree with Jones. on June 28, 2009, at 01:50PM – #14

I should win because I refuse to pay full retail for the dull, cheap products they call apparel.

Once I needed a pair of simple black leggings. I went to AA since simple seems to be their specialty. Little did I know they came with a price tag of $30. :::drop immediately:::

I then went to Buffalo Exchange to see what they had, and I found a brand new pair of black AA leggings for $8. Finally; sanity in pricing.

I should win because whether or not I buy anything, I promise to provide a great review of the taco. And we all know downtown needs a good taco review.

I think I should win because I hate waiting in line for anything! The line-pass offer is just too good and I will review the taco as well.

whoa. you're giving away tickets? awesome. i totally love AA. their stuff is pretty pricey but it definitely fits well. having a line hopping ticket would make shopping there that much better. standing in the heat for long periods of time is kind of horrible. i got sick the last time i did it. -_-. no fun. i should win because it would be soo dope that the first time i comment on this awesome site, results in me winning free tix. and because im considering skipping a trip to vegas to shop for these items that i otherwise wouldn't be able to buy due to their steep prices. aside from all of this like some of your readers im also a struggling student. thx for the opportunity!

Pick me because I just had a baby and my body is finally ready to fit into some new clothes. I'm raising my little four month old downtown, and it's not easy to get away and do some much needed shopping for clothes. All the clothes I own are either stretched beyond recognition from my pregnant belly or are too tight to fit my new stretchy stomach. And of course there is no way I can make it to the sale if I have to wait in line - my little girl would never withstand the heat and the wait. So I hope you pick me!

Pick me! I can tell my DC peeps yet another reason why I love LA: The Annual AA Flea Market!

Love, peace, and taco grease =)

Richard Figueroa on June 29, 2009, at 09:18AM – #20

I'd like to win becuase I just can't afford the clothes from AA and I would love to finally be able to have some of those great clothes!

Let's see, I should win because...

  1. I love blogdowntown...I read this all the time, and are very appreciative off. :)
  2. I lost my job, thus I'm unemployed. I'm basically broke. :(
  3. I haven't been able to buy a pair of pants in just about 2 years... I really need some skinny ones.

Blogdowntown would be officially my favorite blog if it could help me get new clothes, and finally get my friends to tease and make fun of me... hahah

:)

I should win because between my daughter and I we spend a lot of money at all the American Apparel stores, Santa barbara, Melrose, Downtown, Camarillo, etc..... she wears AA everyday and mixes and matches and gets comments everywhere she goes and tells everybody where she shops, so in turn they go to shop. She is a great free advertisment. We went to the last parking lot sale and found a lot of stuff, but if we got to be in early just imagine how much more we would buy. either way we will be there cause ....we are all for legalize L.A.

definitely should be me! because AA is my life! I'm wearing AA right now! I know how long the lines get and having tickets would def be a plus! I'm already going for sure but it would rock my socks off if I got tickets and I didnt have to wait in line! LA love, LA made!
