Central Area Weekly Update: June 27, 2009
DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — Each week Captain Blake Chow, Commanding Officer of LAPD's Central Division, sends out an email to the community. Captain Chow has agreed to let blogdowntown bring his emails to our readers.
As of June 27, 2009 Central reported the following crime numbers. All numbers are YTD unless otherwise noted.
- Violent Crime up 8 percent. (or 36 crimes more than last year)
- Homicides are even
- Rapes are down 23 percent
- Robbery is up 4 percent (9 more than last year or .85 per week)
- Agg Assaults are up 17 percent (36 more than last year or 1.8 per week.
Total Violent Crime is up only 40 crimes from last year.
There are no patterns with respect to violent crime this week. Of note was the fact that there were NO robberies or Aggs in Skid Row last week.
- Property Crime is down 8 percent
- Burglary is down 22 percent
- Grand Theft Auto is down 22 percent
- Burgl from Motor vehicle is down 5 percent Personal Theft is down 3 percent
Total Part I Crimes are down 4 percent for the division. Downtown still has the lowest total numbers or crime in the City. Last week we had 48 crimes in downtown LA which is one of the lowest weeks of the year.
OTHER
Last week we made an arrest of 3 people in the double Homicide that occurred at the LAMP- 6th and Stanford. We will be issuing a press release soon but it involved a murder for hire over narcotics. All three cases were filed by the District Attorney this week.
