Community Invited to Share Ideas for the New Spring Street Park
DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — The city's purchase of 35,000 square feet on Spring street was big news in January, the space perfectly situated to offer a medium-sized bit of green amidst the Historic Core's growing residential population.
On Monday evening, DLANC's Parks committee will host a town hall meeting to discuss possible uses to fit inside the new space.
DLANC's Russell Brown and Patti Berman will be presenting their views on the space, as will Professor Kathleen Bullard, whose UCLA Extension class spent the last semester dreaming up possible scenarios for the new park.
Opportunities and constraints presented by the space will be discussed, and the community invited to share its thoughts on what a park design might entail.
The new park will be located on Spring street, between 4th and 5th. The land is currently being used as parking and construction staging for the El Dorado and Rowan condo projects.
The meeting takes place on Monday, July 6, at 6:30pm. It will be held at The Exchange (114 W. 5th).

Name the park and place a plaque remembering Michael Jackson. (Hey, nobody's commenting on this park but they're commenting like crazy on the MJ memorial at Staples.) Seriously, not a bad idea. In the past, there were many, many good and not-so-good suggestions. The problem is that the space is not big enough to be everything to everyone. Some grass, some trees, some benches, some pavement in between and if there's room, a dog run. And lights, lots of lights at night but directed downward, so the glare isn't obtrusive to the residents of Rowan and El Dorado.
