Lesley Gilb Taplin

Art Share Los Angeles this morning announced the first two recipients of the Lesley Gilb Taplin Scholarship. Ana De La Rosa of Oscar De La Hoya Animo Charter High School and Evelyn Martinez of Roosevelt High School will each receive $2,000 toward their first year of college.

The fund was set up after Taplin was killed in a freeway accident this April. She had been an early supporter of Art Share and was very involved in the Downtown Los Angeles Neighborhood Council's education committee.

The scholarship is open to all Art Share seniors who will be entering any community college or university and have volunteered a minimum of 50 hours within downtown. Candidates must prepare an essay on community building and provide a reference from an educator.

Downtowners interested in contributing to the Taplin scholarship fund can do so via check or online donation. Information on where to mail payments and a link to the online donation form is available on the Art Share LA website.
