Colorfully Playful, Rosa Mexicano is L.A. Live's Latest Addition

Opening today at L.A. Live.

Capping off restaurant openings at the brand-new entertainment center, Rosa Mexicano opens its doors today at L.A. Live. The New York-based Mexican entrant is the latest in a string of high-end Latin restaurants to open in Downtown this year, among them Rivera Restaurant, Provecho, Yxta Cocina Mexicana, and Casa Cocina y Cantina.

The 205-seat dining room is bathed in bright primary colors and warm hues, and areas for private parties are available.

While the menu is nothing most Angelenos haven't seen before -- enchiladas, mole and tacos -- the staff advocates their signature contemporary entrees, molcajete-prepared guacamole made at your table, and house margaritas.

Rosa Mexicano: Friday, 8/14 and Saturday, 8/15 open at 5:00pm for dinner; Beginning Monday, 8/17, hours as follows: (Lunch) Monday-Friday, 11:30am-4:00pm; (Dinner) Sunday-Wednesday, 4:00pm-10:00pm, Thursday-Saturday 4:00pm-11:30pm / 800 W Olympic Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90015 / 213-746-0001 / rosamexicano.com

Ate there for the first time over the weekend (I'd heard from friends that the NY one is really good). Pretty decent food, even if it is NY-based. Very creative use of spices, very flavorful. Give it a try before knocking it...

What's up with those awful pink walls on the outside? Pink appears to be part of the restaurant's theme, fine. But those walls wouldn't look good in any color. They look like they could have come from the Regal down the street.

That said, it's nice seeing the outdoor seating. Too bad that Yard House's outdoor seating doesn't wrap around to Olympic. (And too bad there isn't much for diners to look at...yet.)

They come to LA and their signature is tableside guacamole?

That's about as signature as free refills.

I'd rather go to any of the La Parrillas and not have to look at LA Live.

Just went for happy hour...nice place. The margaritas are $5 until 6:30 and they were great. They also have 3 appetizers at half price. The sad part is that when you look outside, you are facing an ugly part of Olympic Blvd. They need some plants or better landscaping in front to green it up. Check it out...the interior is beautiful..a nice addition to Downtown.
