Staples Center owner AEG is teaming with nightlife firm SBE to open an outpost of Hollywood's Hyde Lounge inside the arena's suite level. According to a report published this week in the Sports Business Journal, the posh venue is set to debut this fall.

The lounge will take the place of eight suites inside Staples Center, which will still have 150 of the luxury boxes.

More from Sports Business Journal (full article is online, but available to subscribers only):

The Staples Center version of Hyde Lounge will be designed in part by sports architect Rossetti, the firm planning other parts of the arena's $10 million renovation this summer. It will have ledge seats overlooking the bowl and high-end leather furniture, rich fabrics, strong earth tones and hand-carved finishes.

The 175-person lounge, opposite stage end, is to debut Oct. 27 for the Lakers' home opener. Levy Restaurants, the arena's food provider, will operate the club in tandem with on-site managers representing the two firms. Food will also be served with some of the same items on the menu at Katsuya and other SBE restaurants.

SBE's Katsuya at L.A. Live opened in June.

Is the Skybox permanently closed, or just until Lakers/Clippers/Kings games resume?

Jon: I don't know. I'll ask.

That sounds really cool. A full scale sports lounge at the arena. Of course I will never be able to afford to cover charge to get in.

I would imagine the Skybox restaurant lost a lot of business to ESPN Zone.
